Título: Compressão Seletiva de Imagens Coloridas com Base em Redes Neurais

Resumo: This paper proposes a selective compression method of digital color images where regions of the image, called regions of interest (RoI), are compressed totally lossless and the rest of the image in a lossy manner. This method can be used in applications where the loss of information in some regions is not tolerable, as for example, the medical images for telemedicine use. This way, high compressions ratios are reached without compromising the use of the image. The method uses techniques as artificial neural networks, discrete wavelet transform, mathematical morphology, Huffman adaptive coding, and run-length encoding
