Resumo: In this paper is presented an approach for the problem of noise removal from partial discharges (PD) signals, using recent and well established concepts of Blind Source Separation (BSS) and Independent Component Analysis (ICA). It is showed that the ICA methods can be applied to PD signals characterization, arriving to a satisfactory solution for separation and/or elimination of noise from original signals. The original signals can be some defects coming from aged stator bars windings or from several other kinds of defects coming from insulated systems inside power transformers and hydrogenerators, among others.
