Resumo: Amazon Forest monitoring is a necessary task in order to detect environmental problems, to recognize security threats and to conduct studies on transport and logistics, since it is the largest rainforest in the world. Due to these applications, there are projects which focus on monitoring the Brazilian Amazon forest by satellite images and the possibility of using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles – UAVs. However, forest monitoring, either through satellite images, either through UAVs, is a complex task due to the size of the area and to the fact that the forest is a dynamic environment. Thus, this work focuses on the segmentation of real images of a region of the Amazon as well as on the extraction of features in order to show changes on the environment over time. Images from 2001 to 2010 are used in the experiments.
